NEW BRUNSWICK ? A South River man has been charged in an indictment handed up in New Brunswick with aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of a Rutgers University student.
Roger Hode, 42, was also charged with death by auto in the killing of Chelsea Traynor, 21, of Concord, Calif., the morning of Dec. 9, 2010.
Authorities said Traynor was bicycling on George Street and crossing Route 18 in New Brunswick when a northbound pickup truck, driven by Hode, struck her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Hode was not immediately charged in connection with her death.
Traynor was a sophomore majoring in nutritional science in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, formerly known as Cook College, in New Brunswick.
Traynor, according to her Facebook profile in 2010, had attended Humboldt State University in California, where she studied nursing, international relations and communications. She transferred to the College of New Jersey and then, in 2009, to Rutgers University.
