Dr. Mona Ackerman, a clinical psychologist in private practice in New York City and writer of an advice column for The Huffington Post, has passed away from ovarian cancer, according to news reports.
The New York Times reported that Ackerman, who was 66 at the time of her death, ended her column with HuffPost in 2009 because of her cancer diagnosis. The Daily Beast reported that after ending her HuffPost column, she wrote from time to time for The Daily Beast.
Ackerman is survived by her companion, Richard Cohen, as well as her father, sister, brother, son, daughter and grandchildren, the New York Times reported.
Ackerman, who was a member of the American Psychological Association, received her doctorate from the Yeshiva University Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. She previously worked as an associate at the Yale University Child Study Center, and was also an adjunct professor at the New York University Heyman Center for Fundraising and Philanthrophy, according to her HuffPost biography.
