Former Liberty High School basketball star Randi Jones will be inducted into Marymount University?s athletic hall of fame class on May 11.
Jones, the 2006 Capital Athletic Conference women?s player of the year, ranks eighth in school history in career assists (334), 13th in scoring (1,210), 20th in steals (166) and 25th in rebounds (514).
She also earned CAC female scholar-athlete of the year honors and was a four-time choice to the CAC all-academic team.
BASKETBALL
Freshman forward Ben Watkins (Chancellor) scored a career-high eight points in nine minutes as 16th-ranked Christopher Newport topped Methodist 68?48 Saturday to improve to 10?1.
Senior Meredyth Frye (Riverbend) scored a season-high 18 points and had 11 rebounds in Georgia Southern?s 58?56 loss to the College of Charleston Saturday.
Senior forward Mike Phillips (Riverbend) led Howard with 15 points Saturday as the Bison won 70?60 at Coppin State to snap a four-game losing streak.
Sophomore Brittany Glasco (Massaponax) had a team-high 17 points in Virginia Wesleyan?s 57?53 win at Hollins Saturday.
Junior Dameon Turner (Stafford) had 18 points and eight rebounds as Mt. Aloysius (Pa.) beat Hilbert 85?82 Saturday and added 16 points and a team-high 12 rebounds in Sunday?s 80?72 win over D?Youville College.
Despite 21 points from senior forward Lamar Giggetts (Courtland), Randolph-Macon lost 66?65 to unbeaten Randolph College Saturday. Another former Cougar, sophomore James Fitzgerald, is a reserve forward for the Wildcats (12?0), who face nationally ranked Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan this week.
Junior guard Taylar Wells (Mountain View) netted a season-high 22 points in Winston-Salem State?s 59?41 win over Lincoln (Pa.) Saturday.
Junior Dajon Daniel (Mountain View) had a team-high 19 points in Eastern Mennonite?s 78?71 win at Emory & Henry Saturday.
Junior guard Marquel Davis (Stafford) had 11 points in Pittsburgh?s 69?55 loss to Seton Hall Saturday.
SWIMMING
Sophomore Michael Fox-Moles (Brooke Point) won the 100-yard backstroke (51:40) in Columbia?s 209?91 dual-meet win over Bucknell Saturday.
Radford freshman Mary Flinn (Brooke Point) finished third in the women?s 500 freestyle (5:40.58) in a tri-meet with North Florida and South Georgia College Saturday.
TRACK AND FIELD
Senior Alex Hinton (Chancellor) anchored VCU?s 3,200 relay to an IC4A-qualifying time on 7:52.46 at Saturday?s Father Diamond Invitational in Fairfax. Rams junior Justine Dutton (Caroline) was second in the women?s pole vault (10?10).
George Mason junior Tyler Torino (Colonial Forge) was fifth in the men?s 3,000 (9:08.30), and sophomore Tyler Oliver (Stafford) finished seventh in the men?s mile (4:31.34).
Tennessee State sophomore Ashontae Jackson (Orange) helped Tennessee State win the women?s 1,600-meter relay (3:51.83) at Saturday?s Ed Temple Classic in Nashville. She was also third in both the 200 (25.73) and long jump (19?2).
Navy freshman Jeremy Granderson (Colonial Forge) finished second in the long jump (22?9) in a 91?89 dual-meet win over host Princeton Sunday.
WRESTLING
Junior Chris Smith (Chancellor) scored a 17?0 technical fall win over Maryland?s Aaron Norris at 174 pounds Saturday, helping Bloomsburg beat the 18th-ranked Terrapins 22?15.
FOOTBALL
Randolph-Macon senior receiver Luke Sellers (Courtland) and Christopher Newport junior defensive lineman Justin Navarro (North Stafford) were named to the Roanoke Times? all-state first team for players in divisions II, III and NAIA. Sellers caught 40 passes for 630 yards and four touchdowns, and Navarro made 70 tackles, including 5 sacks, and forced three fumbles.
